A View of Tehran

A View of Tehran
Marco Greggi and the Iranian National Broadcasting Facility, Tehran, March 2nd 2024.

Just back from a three days visit in Tehran where I had the rare privilege to lecture at the National tax administration on VAT and tax evasion: no other Italian tax Professor has ever had such a privilege, and I doubt that any other European one had delivered courses in the Capital City at the Ministry of Finance as I have done in the recent years.

After the 2017 events my project has been put on hold, and years have wasted, but now I am back on track and, with me, the expertise of the University of Ferrara. The moment is complicated and the tension high, yet I believe it is a duty of very academic seriously committed in his mission to build bridges and promote discussion rather than anything else.

There, I have found old friends and new faces, optimism, commitment, awareness of the mission we have: to build a more inclusive, fair and equitable tax system. And this is true in persi just like in Italy. And the capital city? Vibrant, dynamic, alive: as ever. More than ever, more than anything else.
